There are essentially two ways to manage one’s IT in their company. You can either employ your own staff to take care of all your problems or you can outsource the process to a specialist IT company.

Doing your IT in-house:
Almost every company starts out with employing one or more individuals to take care of their networking and IT needs. The immediate benefit of this compared to outsourcing is typically costs. It is almost always cheaper to higher one IT guy then paying a company to do it for you. The downside however, (which is why companies usually eventually move to an outsourced process) is lack of manpower and capabilities.
Outsourcing your IT:
Outsourcing IT is definitely more expensive than employing a single person but it starts to become comparative when your companies needs outgrow the capabilities of just one IT person. The biggest advantage and reason why companies eventually opt for the outsourced model is they get a whole wealth of knowledge,expertise and assistance of a whole team of IT experts without needing to employ each of these specific capabilities individually.
